PLEASE! No More Snow!

This is the amount of snow I remember as a kid but everything seemed large as a kid. This winter the white stuff isn't going away and every time it comes it comes up to our knees! It is no fun trekking out to barn in this stuff. I am looking forward to Spring because Willow eats nonstop and she needs some green stuff so I can stop feeding her all day. The next day our snowman and dog had already started to melt and Willow had eaten the buttons and eyes off. Nothing lasts in our yard!

Thousands of Snow Geese

I have lived in the area for a couple of decades and the normal thing around here are Canadian Geese. For the previous 2 years we have had small flocks of snow geese landing in our fields. This year we had THOUSANDS of snow geese land! Unlike Canadian geese these white smaller guys are VERY noisy! And this mass group also started walking toward the tree line en mass while quacking. WHAT NOISE! And unlike their cousins, who stay for hours, they only stayed for 20 minutes.

Hours later my dog found wandering around our horse pen by itself. Must have have gotten lost because it didn't look hurt.

Every Child Must Rebel

And Willow rebelled last night. The neighbor over the hill called and said she couldn't put her blind dog outside because Willow was in her yard. Now what she thought Willow was going to do to the do I don't know. So my husband dropped me off but after the woman, who happened to be our cousin, had chased Willow around she was too frightened to come home with me and ran further into the woods! I gave up and started the 3/4 mile walk home in the dark. About 1/2 way home I look across the road and Willow is following me. Deer can't see well but they can hear. She knew every moment where I was. So I took off through the fields until we reached our fields. When she saw our wire fences she knew "home" and took off for the front porch. She hasn't left our sight all day today. I'm sure some scary lady yelling at her was no fun. Wish teenagers learned their lessons so easily!

A Little Snow on Country Roads

I live in a mid-Atlantic state on a country road. Only 3 miles from a major highway. 3 inches of snow and no one goes out! It took several hours before a truck came out to sand the road. Go the 3 miles and everything looks normal....if you make it the 3 miles.

Holly Tries to Ride WIllow

It isn't unusual for people to stop by and want to pet and feed the deer and other animals. Today our cousins stopped and Holly was a little afraid of Willow. In a matter of seconds she was ready to "ride" Willow!

Charlie In His Sweater...Just For Chris!

This is just because Chris wanted to see a picture of Charlie in his sweater. In case you are wondering, that is his gut hanging down. Fainting goats are used as meat goats. Charlie only stands about 18" high. Can't imagine getting much meat off of him. Too sweet to eat. He knows his name and comes when we calls him.

You Should See the Looks!

The daily ritual of feeding Willow by hand so the dogs won't eat her food. It takes about 10 minutes and it's always on the front porch because that is her favorite place to hang out. I am hoping that there isn't an accident because the road is just ahead. You should see the looks! Quite often we get people who turn around several times for another look. Sometimes they even take out their cell phones. Not like they all haven't seen a deer before....Maybe it's the blue collar that throws them off.

Willow and the new Pup

It seems that on the farm there is NEVER a dull moment when it comes to animals. Be it our animals, the neighbor's or the wild animals. Today we got a new puppy and Willow (deer) and the pup took to playing tag with each other. Willow definitely enjoyed teasing the new puppy!

After all that fun outside we came in to find that our award winning Sunny learned how to open the hamster's cage. Not a very good ending for Twix.

A Couple of Humours Pictures

My daughter is great with animals. Rhode Island Reds made this a little easier than Leg Horns would have. We used 2 different chickens. She dressed them and I snapped the pictures.

Beautiful Garden Ideas

Using an old exterior shutter as a
back drop helps make the smaller plants pop. Also great for vines or to hang little pots.

Another nice addition in gardens are old windows. Usually easy to find as people are replacing windows. They just add a little interest in a garden.

Eventually the old statuary will be put in an English garden.

Another Local Country Fair

We had a
local country fair and my daughter and I entered a few photos. The one below (Snickers) that my daughter entered won Best in show! The gangsta Kitty below won 3. Check out her blog The Funny Farm (link on right) for more fun pictures.
